All of us like the look of cool, fresh, modern interiors. We go to hipster coffee shops, urban co-working spaces and salivate over dream apartments on Pinterest. However, very few actually know how to make their home look as cool, modern and cosy at the same time. That’s what we’re here for. We came up with a couple of interior design tips that will help you transform your home and your life.

1. Plants
When decorating a room we often forget plants and focus on furniture. However, adding a bit of greenery is always a great idea. It instantly freshens up the room and makes it seem so much lighter and more stylish. Plus, plants look good in any color scheme and they add a bit of interesting texture to the room.

2. Open Shelves
Were used to kitchen cabinets, but they eat up a lot of space. If you have a small kitchen they will make it look even tinier. Instead try leaving your storage open and use shelves. It’s pretty incredible how much this little trick can help make the room look bigger and brighter.

3. Create The Illusion of Space( With Light Colors)
Another great tip for small rooms is to paint them with light colors. You can go completely white, or even light shades of grey, lavender, blue, etc. It makes the room brighter, and when light reflects off the light colored walls it looks bigger and more open.

4. Funky Wallpaper
Forget using plain old wallpaper on all of your walls. That’s a thing of the past. Instead, try painting most of your walls a plain color and make one accent wall using an interesting pattern or design. Or go even further and use wallpaper in unexpected places, like putting wallpaper with a large drawing or illustration in the corner.

5. Add Art
Hanging art on your walls is a great way to add color to your home and express yourself at the same time. It’s especially important if you decided to paint your whole room white. If you don’t add art it might look too pristine and almost like a hospital. However, adding a painting or two, perhaps a print of your favorite quote will instantly add character and make the space more interesting.

6. Mix Styles
Don’t get me wrong, I totally understand the appeal of buying all your furniture from IKEA. It’s reasonably priced, it’s minimalistic and it looks cool. But sometimes it’s fun to mix up styles and create something unique. Try buying some interesting furniture pieces from a vintage or antique shop and finding a place for them in the midst of your modern furniture. You won’t regret it.

7. Candles
We tend to only remember about candles on birthdays or in the colder months. But you can actually burn them all year round, and just choose the scents according to the season. Smells actually do wonders when it comes to making a room feel cosy or bright and open. Winter months call for warmer, muskier scents, while fresh scents, and even light floral scents are perfect for summer and spring. Candles can also be used as pieces of decor too.

8. Cushions
You probably already know this, but adding a couple of cushions to your couch will instantly make the room feel cozier. You can just buy two in the same color and shape, but we think it’s much more fun to experiment with different shapes, sizes and patterns. It doesn’t all have to be uniform, as long as there’s a similar color scheme. But cushions can also be used to add a pop of color to a dark couch.

9. Fresh Rugs
People rarely think about rugs. They either have them or they don’t and that’s it. But rugs are just like bedlinen. They can instantly transform the room and they need to be changed once they lose their original color and pattern. Rugs are great for making a room seem cozier, and you don’t have to limit yourself to one. You can have a couple of them in a similar pattern, or choose a few in the same color, but different textures.

10. Mirrors
Mirrors are a great way to add light to your room and make it look bigger. They create the illusion of space and, when placed directly opposite your window, reflect the light and make the room look brighter and much more spacious. You can also use mirrors of different shapes and sizes instead of art on your walls.
